The boys and I hit up the Lincoln Zoo again this morning. We've walked past the bug trailer each time we've gone this season, but haven't yet gone inside. Usually by the time we make it over to the trailer, the boys are pretty worn out from all the walking they've done that my main focus is just getting us out of the zoo (which is another long walk in itself). Today I asked them if they wanted to see any bugs and Nolan immediately said, "Yes!" We went inside and looked at several different cages where we found millipedes, tarantulas, and geckos. We then got to a cage labeled, "Python." And in case you didn't know, Nolan loves snakes. I asked Nolan if he could try and find it when a worker came up to us and said that we could actually pet the python if we wanted because he was out of his cage and another worker was holding him. We walked over to the lady and Nolan began the petting right away! Believe it or not, I even gave the guy a few strokes to show Carson that he was a nice snake and wasn't scary. It's so interesting because Nolan is all over the chance to hold bugs and pet snakes, whereas Carson would rather just stand (far) back and watch. I asked him if he wanted to pet the snake and his answer was, "Mommy pet snake." Haha.
The lady then told Nolan that the snake's name was "Yoda" and Nolan responded with, "That's a good name for him." Nolan then told her, "I'm a brave boy. I like monsters." And I said to him, "Thank you for being so gentle to the snake, Nolan." And he responded with, "Mom, I'm not squeezing him!" And I can't believe I forgot to take pictures of this!! I was so focused on Carson and trying to listen to everything Nolan was saying that it didn't even occur to me to take pictures. I realized this as we were leaving the trailer. Oh well, the season just started.

Happy Easter!
Sunday was such a perfect day for celebrating Easter! The weather was beautiful and the boys looked absolutely adorable in their matching outfits. We went to church and on the way home, Carson totally crashed out. He hasn't done that in months so it was pretty strange. Of course it threw his nap schedule way off, but obviously he needed his rest.
The boys woke up Easter morning and went straight to the door, hoping to open it and see that the Easter Bunny left them some goodies on the steps. They found their baskets and were very excited. They spent the rest of the morning, before we left for church, digging through their baskets and chowing down on PEZ candies at the ripe hour of 8:00 AM! :)
We spent the afternoon with Noah's family where we had a very tasty meal and a big Easter Egg Hunt for the grandkids. The boys found lots of yummy treats and had a good time. Enjoy the pics!
Before I forget, here is a precious conversation between my mom (Bama Jean) and Nolan about Easter and what it meant for Jesus to die on the cross:
Bama Jean: "Jesus was nailed to the cross and he died so that we could all go to Heaven. Do you know where we go when we die?"
Nolan: "To Disney World."

Boy's (second) Best Friend
Nolan and Charlie were just too cute together laying on the couch this morning. Nolan said, "Mom, get your camera." He then told Charlie, "I love you soo much, Charlie." As much as that dog may drive Noah and I crazy, he certainly is good to our boys.

"I do it!"
Carson has definitely mastered the skill of independence. He wants to do everything by himself and gets quite frustrated when a helping hand is offered out. He especially likes climbing up big flights of stairs without any assistance, which isn't too scary for me, but then he immediately wants to go back down by himself as well. The going down part is a little terrifying since I have visions of him tumbling over. He's smart too...if he even senses the presence of your hand on or near his body, he'll stop where he's at and explain, "I do it!" He refuses to continue until he can see that you've backed off. I don't remember Nolan being this independent, but little Carson certainly is. Here are a few other cute Carson things:
1) "Watch this, Mommy, watch this!" The "Mommy" part is interchangeable with "Daddy" and this is something Carson says in such a cute, high-pitched voice when he's super excited about showing us something. Usually just a bounce on the floor or a ride on his spring horse, but sometimes he may demonstrate his ball-throwing skills. It's very cute and of course he expects a pretty big reaction. We haven't let him down yet! :)
2) "Des." This one's a little more difficult to explain, but this is Carson's version of the word, "Yes." He's a pretty big screamer in normal situations, but this is one word that he always uses his softest, most angelic voice to say. And the way he says it is just precious, he'll start kinda high and then lower it at the end. Hard to explain, but oh-so-cute!
3) Carson has been showing a bigger interest in potty-training these days than his older brother! A few times throughout the day he'll say to me, "Potty, Mommy? I go potty?" And although he's never actually gone, he does enjoy just sitting up there without any pants on and pretending that he's going. Sometimes he'll sit up there for a couple minutes and I'll say, "Okay, all done. Thanks for trying!" He'll respond, "I potty again! I potty again!" And so I'll have to lift him back up there and within a minute he'll say, "I all done, Mommy." Soo cute and the pictures are just adorable. :)

Hangin' in Trees & Easter Egg Hunts
It's been a long time since I posted...sorry! I haven't been feeling very well and it seems as soon as I mentioned that spring was here to stay, we've been dealing with winter-like conditions again! The weather has been depressing and hard on all of us. The boys desperately want to get outside, but it's either been really cold or really wet and we've been stuck indoors again. Luckily, today ended up being a very nice, sunny day. We went to the Lincoln Zoo this morning and stayed there for about 1.5 hours. It wasn't too busy at all and it was nice just taking our time. At the indoor lizard exhibit, Nolan got up to the glass and said, "Hi Lizard, I'm happy to see you today!" It was so funny.
Last Wednesday we went back over to my parent's house and checked on the Mourning Dove's nest. Not only was the mother away from her babies, but her babies now looked like toddlers or even preschoolers! They were huge! I think those birds go from infants to adults in less than a week. And then I think a day or two later we went back again and the nest was completely empty. So obviously those birds learned how to fly and took up home somewhere else. I guess we'll have to move on to bunnies now.
Last Friday was opening day for the Lincoln Zoo but it rained all day long so we didn't go. On Monday I decided to take the boys, even though it was in the 40's and we had to drag out our winter coats and hats again. We stayed for about an hour and it was nice to just get out of the house, even if it was really chilly. I felt bad because at one point Nolan said to me, "Mom, we need our mittens!" But I didn't bring them because I figured they would be taking them on and off so many times in order to touch an animal or climb on the equipment that I just left them at home. I had to explain to Nolan that we would be okay without our mittens, even if it was cold. At least I know he wasn't freezing. They both have super heavy duty OshKosh winter coats and warm stocking hats so I know they were okay.
On Saturday Noah and I hid a bunch of eggs in our backyard during the boys' naps. They took such long naps that day and I think it was close to 4:00 before we started the egg hunt. They were very excited to find eggs hidden in the yard, but even more excited to sit on the steps and crack them open to find the candy. Little Carson has certainly been watching his brother...he'll pick up an egg, give it a good shake to hear if there's something inside of it, and then crack that baby open! These boys love their candy! (Wonder where they got that from???).
